An interesting perspective that might have significant ramifications for the midterm election. I have to wonder - and I don't mean this sarcastically at all - why any conservative would ever doubt that giving Democrats power is by far the worse evil than supporting Trump.
That's pretty much the big debate on the Right ever since Trump pulled ahead in the 2016 primary. Many lifelong conservatives don't like him, and they have specific reasons they can articulate very well. They think he's bad for the conservative movement.
Granted those criticisms are all made in good faith... but how can anyone forget how aggressively awful the Democrats are? How thirsty they are for power, and how eager they are to use compulsive force as a flamethrower against conservative ideals and politicians?
The Democrats are determined to use power to change the electorate. They don't win elections and float a few wrongheaded policy proposals. They use power to get more power. They reshape the battleground so they can't lose the next election.
There's always the danger that a poor GOP candidate will help Democrats pass left-wing legislation or do some damage to conservative causes, but unless the candidate is an outright Dem plant, they aren't going to use power to move the electorate left.
Passive damage from an imperfectly conservative Republican is never going to be as bad as the active damage from an aggressive left-wing Democrat. We really shouldn't need periodic reminders of that.
The hardcore NeverTrump fringe is dangerous because they've given Democrats a free pass for every abuse, every dirty trick, every attack on the rule of law - it's all good as long as Trump suffers. Dems can do no wrong in their eyes.
But for the more reasonable, genuine conservatives who dislike Trump, there are good and useful conservative things he's done, and you don't have to embrace him or abandon your reasoned critique to acknowledge them, or the aggressive danger posed by the Left.
Never forget: conservatives are the REAL "Resistance." The momentum of politics has been dragged leftward for generations now. The government itself is the most powerful special interest in the land. The Democrats are its political wing. The electorate has been engineered.
You either resist that inexorable drive toward collectivist rule - socialism, fascism, communism, whatever guise it assumes - or you don't. You either resist it every chance you get, or you let it steal a few more inches from the free ground we still hold.
Stand for individualism and the rule of law, or sit and let the tyranny of identity politics rule your life - and it WILL rule every inch of it. You will not be left alone. Let Kavanaugh's ordeal stand as the last reminder of that you should ever need. /end
