For those who don’t want to read, the US Postal Service will deliver your mail-in ballot *even if it has no stamp.*

Then they’ll charge your local election board for the postage.

I want to start chanting USA or something, this is true patriotism.
I want to start a public awareness campaign about this.

No stamp, no problem!

Fuck the stamp!

Vote for free(dom)!

No postage necessary because this is America goddammit!
I’ll still mail you a stamp though, because, as reported by the LA Times, I am paranoid about votes not being counted. latimes.com/politics/la-po…

Serving in law enforcement is a dangerous and important job.

However.

This article omits important information, thereby implying that law enforcement is somehow becoming an increasingly dangerous job.
That doesn’t appear to be the case.

2017 saw 129 officer fatalities. There have only been four years since 1959 that had fewer fatalities.

The average from 2002 to 2016 was 159. 2018, so far, has seen 144.
There were 5,147 fatal work injuries in the United States in 2017. By far, the most common cause was transportation incidents, which accounted for 2,077 (40%) of deaths.

In 2018, 50 officers died in traffic-related incidents. 52 officers died in firearms-related incidents.

I talked to a guy yesterday who voted for Beto on the first day of early voting. He’s voted straight ticket democrat in Texas for 40 years, and he said “it just drives me crazy when people don’t vote. That’s how we got in this mess.”
And I told him sure, but after a few weeks in mostly low-income neighborhoods around Dallas, I’ll never complain about people not voting again. Because that assumes people don’t vote out of laziness. Or apathy.

And that could not be more innacurate.
People don’t vote in America, because we’ve allowed America to become a country without a voting culture. Voting is not for everyone. Voting is not who we are.

Voter suppression is often incremental, but the results are immediate, and passed down to future generations.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how Boomers bullied Gen X into the political apathy of the nineties, and how it allowed them stack the deck in their favor for a generation.
Boomers called Xers lazy, spoiled, and selfish while pushing this myth of the American taxpayer. “I’m a tax-payer,” they sneered, like some stereotypical 1950s husband acting like they’re the head of America’s household because they bring home the paycheck.
In 1972, half of 18-24 year-olds voted. By 1996, it was 32%.

For the 1994 midterms, it was less than 20%.

This idea that a higher income, and subsequently paying more taxes, gives you more right or responsibility to be involved in politics is offensive. And dangerous af.

So I did early voting today… YAY ME!. But something a little sketchy happened when I went to vote. I handed the guy my license. He handed me a form to fill out and my choices for ballot were Republican, Democrat, and non-partisan. I checked Democrat because duh!
He looks at my form and then asked me “Are you sure that’s the ballot you want? There’s only like two races on that one. I know there’s more on the other ones.“ I asked him “What do you mean? I have a cheat sheet here with 11 races.” 🤷🏻‍♀️
He said something along the lines of “Well there is federal state and local on there but only a couple races on that ballot.” 🤨 So I responded with “I would like to see a sample ballot.“ He walked over to a lady and asked her to get me a sample ballot.
