After spending a week in Moldova at the World Congress of Families conference, one question: Is America’s Religious Right turning its back on Russia? thinkprogress.org/america-religi…
It wouldn't necessarily be surprising: the U.S. Religious Right had a far easier time building ties in Russia under the Obama administration.

But with the Trump admin now responsible for sanctions? For expanding NATO? Not so much. thinkprogress.org/america-religi…
But WCF head Brian Brown hasn't given up the dream of building up American Religious Right ties in Russia. He's doing all he can to build bridges between America's social conservatives and Moscow—and is willing to do whatever it takes. thinkprogress.org/america-religi…
Just last year, it was obvious Russia had grabbed the mantle of the leader of the global Christian Right (politico.com/magazine/story…).

Eighteen months later, though, that seems far less clear. And what that means remains to be seen.
Or put another way: Russia, or Russian higher-ups, are still trying to grab that mantle.

But prominent American Religious Righters, if their absence in Moldova was any indication, are no longer as willing to let it go as they were just two years ago.
Here's what Brian Brown had to say about the state of relations between Russia and the U.S. Religious Right, calling criticism of ties "attempts to muddy the water": thinkprogress.org/america-religi…
'The Russian leader’s fans among the U.S. Christian Right prefer to ignore his liberal views on abortion.' codastory.com/disinformation…
