1. September is Library Card Sign-Up Month and I'd like to use this soapbox to say how awesome libraries are, and how much more benefits there are with owning a library card from even a decade ago.
2. I have free access to Lexis-Nexis, something newsroom pay thousands of dollars for access.
3. I take unlimited online classes and tutorials at lynda.com, which was where I learned a lot about video editing. I just took a speed reading course on that site. My library also offers access to Mango Languages, which is a great site for learning new languages.
4. There's this just-released hardcover book I wanted to order from Amazon. I asked my librarian whether the branch carries it, they said they didn't. "But would you like us to order it for you?" They did, and a week later, I've got the book in hand. Libraries do that for you!
5. Near the front desk of my library branch is a shelf of just Criterion Edition Blu-Rays. For free to check out.
6. My library gives me free access to Kanopy. These are just some of the films I can watch right now.
7. In conclusion, people my age don't think about library cards, but they really should. They give you more perks than any other card in your wallet. AND IT'S FREE. And thus concludes my unsolicited endorsement for Library Card Sign Up Month (do it)

9. Libraries make you a better writer.

A person who doesn't own a library card is a person leaving free money on the table.

1/ I consider myself to be relatively knowledgeable when it comes to personal finance...I’ve invested a lot of time educating myself over the years. The ~10 focuses & my beliefs will always change which is why it’s such an interesting topic. It also may be the most important.
2/ I’m going to share short and concise opinions each day and see how long I can go on for. Note that personal finance is highly.. personal. Not everything is advisable and applicable to everyone.
3/ Keep your personal burn low. Budgeting is important (and it’s actually easy). @PersonalCapital is the new @mint. Open an account and use their free service. Tracking income and spend is the first step to developing a budget and lowering expenses.

#10YearsOfLostInTheMovies begins right now - a 100-day trip through my archive leading to July 16, 2018, the 10th anniversary of my site. I will share 10 posts each day, moving chronologically from 2008 to the present. Hope this provides an interesting way to explore my work.

As a disclaimer I certainly don’t always stand by everything I wrote years or even a decade ago; opinions change and I may also have written something differently than I do now. In various ways I’ve changed over the years though I’m still happy with most what I’ve published.
