If Kavanaugh's confirmation were a foregone conclusion, it would have happened already. It's not done until it's done.
If the GOP had the votes to move forward without a hearing on Blasey Ford, they would have done it. If they had the votes to move forward without an FBI investigation, they would have done it. They don't have 50 votes yet. Period.
Is it likely they'll have 50 votes to confirm Kavanaugh in a week? I don't know. I can make a case either way, and believe it. But I do know that they didn't have the votes this afternoon.
If you think this fight is lost, go work on something else. There's lots of other work that needs doing. But proclaiming that Kavanaugh's confirmation is inevitable achieves nothing and helps nobody.
And people already feel crappy enough this week. So just don't. Thanks.

A weird tack for a guy whose whole pitch is his elder-statesman avuncularity to take. "I don't want to run, but all the kids in the race are crap, so here I am" is the opposite of the tone I'd have expected him to set.
Just a reminder that his instincts for primary-race messaging have never been any good, I guess.
"We have a great, deep field, and I'm honored to be running alongside this crew. Whichever of us wins the nomination would be a far better president than Trump, and if it's not me, I'll be working night and day to be sure they get to prove it" is Biden's natural lane right now.

One more thing on youth voting: There are a lot of folks in my mentions saying kids aren’t cognitively developed enough to vote. But it’s not clear to me what that means.
At 12, the typical kid is more than able to meet baseline standards for voting—understanding what an election is, learning about candidates, managing the act of voting.
When we bar kids from making choices they’re not mature enough to make, it’s generally because we’re worried that they’ll do harm to themselves or others if allowed to choose.

Just saw something on my feed that reminded me to remind you that if you’re a NYC (or vicinity) high school or middle school teacher and you’d like me to come talk to your students, all you have to do is say so and I’ll be there.
I've spoken with NYC middle school students about the history of youth activism, how they can make change themselves, whether we should lower the voting age—all sorts of stuff. And the conversations are always really lively.
And because it's so much fun, and because it's a subway ride away, and because I know that y'all don't have budgets for this stuff, I'm happy to do it for free. So shoot me a message if you want to set it up.

By raging he's being framed by a Clinton revenge plot conspiracy, Kavanaugh echoed Trump propagandists discrediting Mueller & Russia probe. That in itself is disqualifying from sitting on the Supreme Court. It also proves he won't be an impartial arbiter on those & other matters.
Forget the alleged sexual assault & lies for a moment. Kavanaugh's partisan rant about a left-wing smear conspiracy is so off-the-rails improper for someone whose job is literally to DISPASSIONATELY & fairly interpret facts & law before him. And he wants a promotion to SCOTUS??
Maybe #Kavanaugh's not a conspiracy theorist. But he is consciously echoing Trump. He altered strategy from choir-boy Fox interview b/c Trump didn't like it. Kav's already bending to the executive who named him, like the political operative he is at heart. And will be on SCOTUS.

I am angry & heartbroken for anyone who has ever been dismissed like #ChuckGrassley is dismissing #ChristineBlaseyFord and her very serious allegations, in order to rush a vote for a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land.

So, I wrote a letter to @senjudiciary.
Contacting members of the committee was hard. I got MANY responses from senators that they only will hear from their state’s constituents.

So I ask you all, if you live in a state with a Senator on Judiciary, please contact them.
