There are three "seasons" books are most often launched: Fall, Winter and Spring. Launch day is often on a Tuesday for historical reasons, so books like The Messy Middle (Beksky) and Mastering the Market Cycle (Marks) arrive in bookstores and delivery trucks arrive tomorrow.
Reviewers get prepublication copies which allowed me to write a book review for Belsky's The Messy Middle which is launching officially tomorrow and post it last Saturday. I will review the Howard Marks book next Saturday. 25iq.com/2018/09/29/les…
Book launch "seasons" gave time for sales reps to travel to all the many physical stores. With each season came big sales conferences, where editors presented their book lists to the sales teams. These book conferences lasted for an entire week. deanwesleysmith.com/the-new-world-…

But some businesses just do the losing money part. A critical skill is knowing the difference between the two types.
Customer-based corporate valuation (CBCV) = valuing a business on a "bottoms up" basis by valuing the customers. In a subscription business especially, this is an essential process if you want to understand if real value is being created despite a lack of current GAAP earnings.
"CBCV isn’t about being profitable from day one. It’s about variable profitability in net present value terms (while still being mindful of fixed cost overhead of course!)" Determining whether a specific business is a delicious cheesecake or a turd requires detective work.

1/ I’m very passionate about #books. Every opportunity I get I try to buy some more books for my #antilibrary. However, over the last year, I have changed how I read books. I’d like to share the short story and process in the following thread:
2/ Story: I felt like I was stagnating. I read a lot but I didn’t think I read well. I’d forget almost all of what I read besides a few key points in a fairly short period of time. Being in fields that require consistent learning, I felt I needed to change my approach.

After the #fall of the #Roman #Empire in these businesses food was served in shared tables and consisted of a fixed menu, according to what was already prepared. Even the nobility, like celebrities today, would frequent when traveling.
But, when did the concept and business of restaurants truly begin?
