I want to say thanks to everyone who messaged support during the depressive episode I had last month. I wasn’t in a place to respond at the time, but I did read them all.

I’m feeling a lot better now. It’s funny how grief works. Six years on, you’d think it would be getting easier, but this December was WAY harder than the last few years. I wasn’t prepared.
Anyway I’m back at work today after what feels like a lifetime of break (but was actually just 2 weeks).

Kinda looking forward to it. Hoping I remember my password😬

After two days of dealing with them in my replies, my overwhelming impression is that there are significantly fewer gamergaters than there were a few years ago, but the things they say have not gotten any smarter.
A typical example - unusually colorful metaphors, stronger than average spelling & grammar for this set...but equivalent in content to “ur soooo dumb hurrr hurrrr”

Never any substance. A screenshot of a tweet reply to me from @AmericanMinear that says, “That’s because you’re a moron with the observational skills of a cinder block at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.”
I suppose “never” isn’t quite true. Sometimes, one of them trots out a tired argument that is just as untrue and/or irrelevant now as it was 4 years ago when it was first proffered. Here are some examples:

One would have thought that Tweets with Childlock as this, simplified to the fullest will not need explanation but they sometimes confuse the simple folks one was trying to help from sinking in the linguistic territory abnitio.

Good thread.

I can count the number of professors I went to office hours for—any office hours, spread over college, grad school, and law school—on one hand.
In college, a big part of the reason was that I was often working > 20+ hours a week plus taking very full loads—between 18 & 20 hours a week.
But also—one time I was confused about something in a bio class and girded up my loins and was like I SHOULD GO TO OFFICE HOURS. I determined that if I sprinted after I got out of my 4:40 class, I could make it there by 4:45, 10 minutes before office hours ended.

I felt jon Ronson’s book failed to make a crucial distinction between public figures and relatively anonymous ones even with large twitter feeds. Especially women and especially those the alt right is zeroing in on
It’s one thing to be publicly shamed for being a nazi. It’s another to take a woman’s tweet out of context, plaster her face all over the news, never offer her a chance to explain, and set up an audience to abuse and attack.

Sugar daddy au with a twist where Yoongi is a producer just starting out, and while he's happy he took the risk, he's struggling to make ends meet, often having to rely on his friends for help. They really don't mind since it's never anything much, food mostly, and they love him.
But Yoongi's unhappy with it, doesn't like mooching off his friends, so one night when he's been sulky after having to share Hoseok's dinner instead of buying his own again, Hobi's trying to cheer him up and jokes about how Yoongi should just become a sugar baby.
And Yoongi laughs, because that's ridiculous, he doesn't feel comfortable sharing his body for money and honestly would prefer to be the daddy if he had the money to do something like that anyway.
