NYT: "Here is what can be said with certainty: Had Mr. Trump done nothing but invest the money his father gave him in an index fund that tracks the Standard & Poor’s 500, he would be worth $1.96 billion today."
NYT: When his father was 85, Trump tried to change his father's will to benefit himself. His father was alarmed, wouldn't consent, stripped Trump of sole control over his estate.

Most of the heroin Trump is talking about comes through legal ports of entry, not through unwalled areas.
Trump has never personally presented detailed data about how many children are being fraudulently used for border-crossing purposes, merely implying it's common. The evidence suggests it's a small minority of the families who cross.
Democrats have not made a "request" for a steel barrier, as far as anyone knows. They don't want any of this.

In my experience, immediately fact-checking Trump's immigration lies is harder than immediately fact-checking most other Trump lies -- they're often written into his speeches by people more sophisticated at deception than he is.
Most of Trump's lying is just Trump being a liar -- it's him ad-libbing out of speeches that are more or less factual. The immigration lying is an administration-wide strategy.
He repeats a lot of them, so outlets should be prepared to respond to those right away. But there's really no way to counteract a barrage of live-to-air Trump immigration lies with fact-checking, even if live-TV-fact-checking were a common thing - you can't do it fast enough.

Which, of course, is not to suggest media should not be doing investigative journalism. It's imperative. But true revelation here is not in Trump's corruption, it's in the corruption of the institutions that have allowed -- and continue to allow his ilk -- to dodge consequences.
The point being, this should give you insight into how authoritarian & illiberal regimes have an almost self-sustaining quality. The more illegitimacy is exposed, the more faith ppl lose in the system as a whole, in the process losing will to resist the very cause of the rot.
