I have bad news for people who feel entitled to civility and respect while providing absolutely none to those most in need of both.
I have bad news for those resentful of the scorn they’ve earned through their lack of regard for their fellow human beings, whose response was to show even less regard.
I am going to have no time at all for those who say the problem of our age is divisiveness, or outrage, or anger.

Anyone pushing that line is trying to separate people from an appropriate response to the real problem, which is deliberate harm abuse.

Abuse. From only one “side.”
Anger is a very appropriate response today.
This is exactly what they want.

Perhaps AOC's great contribution is to show just how possible it is to change the conversation, and thereby shine a light on how Democrats inability to do so for so many years in many case represents an unwillingness to do so.
AOC doesn't have some sort of super-powers. She's just got principals.

Nothing against her—she's very talented—but I think what she's doing is easily replicable just by standing for something real and working for it, and refusing to back down from it or accept bad framing.
Doing these simple things are politically powerful tools that should be used all the time.

Refusing to back down is as valid and effective a tool as compromise.

Idealism is just as valid and import as pragmatism.

They should be employed every time they're appropriate.

Donald Trump is an open white supremacist. If anyone treats calling him racist as even mildly controversial I cannot take them seriously.
I mean, for example: everything.
When Anderson Cooper plays the skepticism game in reaction to AOC’s straightforward acknowledgement of a clearly observable truth, he isn’t taking an unbiased position.

In fact he’s taking the position that Trump’s whole charade depends on.

If the richest among us find marginal taxes of 70% radical, wait until they hear what the alternatives are.
It’s an indication of how successful the radical oligarchist movement has been at reframing the public discourse, that something as common-sense as a 70% marginal rate for the highest brackets is considered a radical outlier.
Radical oligarchists have so taken over public discourse that people whose entire ethos and mission is consolidating over half the world's wealth in the hands of a few thousand call themselves "conservative" and nobody says anything.

PC is always a complaint. Civility a demand. They're used as weapons of the status quo.
2/ When people complain about political correctness they're saying opportunities for kindness are oppressive. POC, LGBT, women, or disabled say "X language is unkind. It hurts us and it's a symbol of oppression and dehumanization." Reaction: you threaten my freedom.
3/ Freedom for what? To hurt your neighbors, to treat them as less human, to put them in their places, to retain your own discursive place at the top, a bull in a china shop. Make no mistake: complaints about PC are objections to human decency. That's it.

Social media has conditioned people to feel entitled to others time in increasingly bizarre ways
This is especially true when you have a larger account/following

The presumption that your time "belongs" to your audience is one that people will operate by

And that any contradiction, any argument, any attack, any disagreement

You MUST respond to them
Only reasonable course of action is to ignore and/or block such people

An entitled audience is NOT an audience you want to have

Civility is putting your hands up and getting shot.
Civility is being nice to people who created internment camps for children.
Civility is useless in the face of hate and fascism.
Civility, in the context of today’s finger-wagging by Dem leaders, is thinking that taking the moral high ground is some kind of victory.
IT’S NOT.
Fascists use your morals and guilt to lull you into ineffective action or inaction.
Dem leaders are begging for civility because they want to stay in power as much as the GOP. They don’t want anyone to rock the boat, and they’re too blind to see that it’s already sinking.

My parents were Civil Rights workers. My father was a Freedom Rider. The calls for #civility were constant.

#Civility has never been two-ways. Civility has never benefited the oppressed.

1. When we have left the EU and we have a crap deal and a recession on our hands a lot of people will be asking how we ended up in this mess. The answer to that question is actually the foundation of the most pressing reason to leave the EU.
2. Consider this. Think of how many reports have been written, select committees, expert testimony, academic blether & punditry and not any of it has made a dent on the direction of politics. And of those "experts" they still can't come to agreement or settle on basic definitions
3. Remainers, of course, will blame the Brexiter aversion to experts. This is the cop out answer because what we have seen is that the experts are no experts - in the main they are chancers with institutional prestige. People who feel entitled to be listened to.
