Exactly two years ago I had a dialogue with my Rabi @yemusan1 on the state of the nation and here was his take in summary having navigated all angles and constructs we have reinforced as the holy grail in almost 60years or pretending under a contrived unity: 
"It is difficult to appreciate the dynamic of the "smaller picture" (Individual developing nations like Nigeria) without understanding the context of the "bigger picture" (Global politics and power) and the role that developed Nations and private power brokers play...
...in maintaining a particular status quo to their benefit. Too many of us focus on the foibles of the decrepit cesspit that is our political system (which admittedly is quite an absorbing subject on its own) & get lost in the soundbites & activities of 2sides of the same coin.
We fail to recognise that the entire system we call "our democracy" is merely a cog in a much larger machine. Perhaps if we asked how former dictators in developing countries (who arguably should be facing criminal courts in the Hague for crimes to humanity)...
... can so easily become "democratic ambassadors" with not so much as a change in clothing. We might begin to realise that not every endorsement from a developed nation is as much a blessing as it might first appear.
We spend so much time analysing the technicalities of the glaring inadequacies of our great country without asking the right questions. One place to start might be "Who benefits form all this"... Small picture and big picture...
