Amazing thread which makes a compelling case that the thing that has made Brexit impossible to deliver is the existence of the disgraced former defence secretary, Dr Liam Fox
Actually, this is something I've been wondering for a while. Who is Liam Fox's base? I can't bear Rees-Mogg or Johnson, but I can see they have backers. But who is there out there crying out for the leadership of Liam Fox?

What I find fascinating about Liam Fox is that he can literally wipe billions off the international value of Britain's GDP, yet it never occurs to him that he should shut the fuck up.
Like, despite my rather inflated sense of self-importance, I feel like an idiot every time someone points out a typo. How is it that Fox can get owned by the global financial markets every time he opens his mouth, yet still not feel a twinge of embarrassment?
Matt Ridley is another one. If I'd been chair of the first British bank to suffer a bank run in over a century, I don't think I'd be quite so confident commentating on business matters.

The piece continues our work on dark-money funded 'think-tanks' driving a hard Brexit. Last year, we ran this, by @guyshrubsole, showing how the Legatum Institute was getting huge access to DEFRA: opendemocracy.net/uk/brexitinc/g… Guy's argument about the interests they represent are key.
The story focussed on one Legatum staff member - a former Washington lobbyist called Shanker Singham. Remember that name. He's an important character shaping the future of the country.

Should the Rest Of The World take more UK exports than the EU-27? Yes. Of course. Because the EU-27 was only 19.91% of world GDP in 2017. ➡️
So the fact that the EU-27 took a mere 44.5% (or around 2.25x its fair share) of UK exports should be a cause to look on it as a loyal and, quite frankly, stunningly easy customer. But that wouldn't fit into the Disgraced Former Defence Secretary's narrative. ➡️
Let's shake this puppy by the tail and find out what other half-truths and obfuscations the lying little shit is peddling. ➡️

1. So who do I mean when I refer to the "Brexit Blob"? There's the usual suspects. Redwood, Rees-Mogg, Paterson and the other nonentity backbenchers, and then there;s the Tufton Street sock puppet think tanks and then the ayatollahs of #Brexit.
2. These will be people like Lawson, Ruth Lea, Hartley Brewer, Brendan O'Neill, John Longwoth, Kate Hoey, Gisela Stuart Low Fact Chloe, John Mills and so on and so forth. The ones who aren't lying are stone stupid.
3. These are the people who colluded to ensure that novbody outside the Westminster bubble got a voice in the campaign. That is why The Leave Alliance has struggled to win any exposure. Partly thanks to Hannan's sabotage early on - aided by the Bruges Group.

I'll let you in on a little secret my Brexiteer friends. Although my English is better than most Leave voters, (I know when to use their, they're and there), I am Dutch and studied Economics at the University of Rotterdam. Have an MBA.
2/ Exports represent about 83% of the Dutch Economy and this number, incredibly while in the EU, is still rising.

The comparable percentage for UK exports is 33% of GDP and going down these last few years. It peaked around 2013 in fact.
Us Dutch know which side of our bread is buttered. This is why we keep our EU customers happy. You heard of Parma Ham? Actually bred and fattened in Holland, only smoked in Italy after a short ride in a Dutch truck. Dolmio spaghetti sauce? Made in Holland. Marmite? Say no more!

Some thoughts on framing, buses, manipulation & @BBCr4today

1. The bus was not designed to be believed, as such. It was designed to frame Britain’s EU membership as costly.

It was spectacularly successful in this regard. Rebuttal only helped it achieve that purpose
2. Because Leave leaders are smarter than your average Remainer they know that every time you mention the bus people looking on are subliminally reminded of the the apparent cost of the EU to Britain.

It’s a gift that never stops giving
3. This is why it is constantly revived.

But there has now been a watershed moment. The bus number has been powerfully re-weaponised since sociopath Johnson recently - and brilliantly - tripled down on it
