The Trump administration and Republican state officials are doing this as a work-around after Republican efforts to repeal the ACA and remove protections for pre-existing conditions failed in Congress because of McCain’s 👎.
Amendments that sought to protect people with preexisting conditions in that legislation were voted down. The ruling majority of Republicans are trying, every which way, to remove legal protections for people with pre-existing conditions while baldly lying about their intentions.
