Is NBC News proposing that federal prisoners be starved during the shutdown? Or should their pre-ordered holiday food supplies just be discarded and new, less-palatable sounding meals purchased?
everything reported in this story, including the words attributed to an intercepted email from a prisoner, flowed from one source--Joe Rojas, the guards' union president (who also happens to make a prominent appearance in the NBC piece)
WaPo printed *this* third hand without any corroboration 
USA Today, in another identically-framed piece prominently featuring Rojas and another union president, didn't even feel the need to explain who passed them the purported prisoner emails. usatoday.com/story/news/pol…
to my mind, the newsworthy story is federal prison guards using their access to prisoners' monitored emails (or perhaps engaging in some invention) to help their unions make a political point at the prisoners' expense.
