A 2014 study looking into whether exposure to alcohol consumption in movies was associated with drinking initiation in 13 year old kids who never drank and didn't intend on drinking.

This is a really good episode. One point that was mentioned in passing but is no less important is the idea of a pan-legalist Islam in which we determine how we act solely based on legal permissibility.
Islam is much bigger than a code of do and don’t do. It’s a religion of nurturing excellent character development. It’s not enough to know the specifics of the law. There’s a greater backdrop that must also be kept in mind.
Imam Ibn al-Qayyim says in one of his texts “Knowledge is a tribulation.” He said that in reference to the one who has not had their character developed along with their intellectual gains. Such a person is the most dangerous of all because they know how to manipulate the law.

Muslims living in the West have a moral duty to be the voice for the voiceless and the oppressed, especially those living in places where even showing empathy with anyone the regime condemns is considered a crime.
We live in a time when governments are doing their damndest to manipulate Islam to serve their ends. It’s therefore imperative for us living in relatively free societies to preserve this religion.

Any state sponsored Islamic educational initiative should be ignored.

While I appreciate and empathize with the perspective of the author, this piece ignores one important fact - that doctors are not mindless automatons with medical training there to act on the whims of patients.

“But I also believe that surgery’s only prerequisite should be a simple demonstration of want.”

The paternalistic doctor-patient relationship is mostly a thing of the past as medicine moves forward. But it’s problematic to expect that doctors should simply do as you wish.
This piece is calling for coercing doctors to perform procedures even if they believe the harm outweighs the benefit.

Patient autonomy is not absolute. It’s limited by others’ rights for autonomy, including the doctors involved.

No one seems to be investigating how FB rigs algos. One example: dem "friends" on feed more often than friends w/ other views. I caught on because it was very obvious ranking/frequency was not organic & certain messages were promoted. I quit FB years ago- that was one reason why.
2) Algo rigging is especially insidious. Propaganda mind control technique: make us feel in a minority opinion, giving us pressure to change through public shame. This has *government* written all over it. Via social media, they've brilliantly weaponized our friends, family, etc.
3) The dysfunction of messing with people's lives- promoting some relationships in our feeds, while hiding others... has caused families, friends, co-workers, communities great harm- harm that they often aren't even aware of, They have tampered with our personal lives. It is evil

For months, I have been reporting on separated immigrant families and looking into kids who remain separated. Last month, I learned about a father who was separated from his 6-year-old daughter and then deported back to Honduras without her. They remain separated to this day.
Misael Ponce Herrera and his 6-year-old daughter, Marianita, left their home in Honduras to try to immigrate to the U.S. Misael says they were fleeing violence and poverty. But after illegally crossing into Texas in June, the two were taken into custody by US officials.
Misael & Marinita were held at an immigration detention center near McAllen, Texas, for about a week. Misael says, one morning, immigration officials came to take Misael to court & said, “When you get back you'll see your daughter." So Marianita hugged & kissed him goodbye.
