Sorry John, you're wrong. The right to petition the government for a redress of grievances is an older and more fundamental right in the U.S. Constitution than the right to vote.

You may not like it. But that's how it is.
It is not the fault of the people, @JohnJHarwood, that the U.S. political system is so broken, Balkanized and hostile to voting rights, that in some red states, the only recourse people have to effect change is to make their elected officials lives' miserable until they quit.
In fact, @JohnJHarwood, a huge bulk of the blame for why we have a system like that lies with that one senator they were screaming at.

He installed a federal judiciary that is stripping people of the right to vote. He ended the ability of the Senate to do anything bipartisan.
