So, while I've been on tour, I've had a couple of people apologize about getting my books from the library rather than purchasing them. Let's have a quick thread about books and sales and libraries, shall we?
One, obviously I'm happy when you buy my books for yourself. Thank you if you do! BUT if your budget doesn't allow that, getting the book from the library is the next best thing, from my point of view.
And why is that? Well, because the library buys my book! If enough libraries purchase the book because the interest from the patrons is there, that's a nice, reliable base of sales for any writer. They also buy extra copies because of demand, and to replace old books.
BUT ALSO, in a general sense, I am a huge proponent on the desirability and necessity of libraries in our cities and communities. Every book you check out from a library is a positive example of how libraries matter (and STILL matter). I support you supporting libraries.
So, yes: If you *can* buy my book, please do! My daughter's college tuition thanks you. But don't ever feel like you need to apologize to me for getting my book out of the library. Your support of your local library makes me happy. Thank you for it.
