#Here is #How #Modi #reduced #Corruption in #NewIndia
SUMMARY: Introduce a Law that Dissuades reporting of Corruption.

It’s a long #Thread. so please stay with me.

In July 2018, the Govt passed the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2013.

#AntiCorruption #Corruption #NewIndia work of #Genius

How does this Amendment change things?

(A) Post Amendment, the #Bribe #Giver would also be considered a #criminal or penalizing the bribe giver and bribe taker on equal terms.
#AntiCorruption #Corruption #NewIndia work of #Genius

(B) The Amended Act will facilitate confiscation of the offender’s property

Looking at A & B, who in their right mind will COMPLAIN about being forced to give a bribe?

Heard from former students about how remarkably easy this is. Very quick. Government functioning the way it should.
Twitter reviews are also unanimous! This is a public benefit application form that is so easy to fill out that ALL of it fits in a single screenshot! It's almost as if that was the goal Klain etc gave them.

This is nicely done, @POTUS @WHCOS! A good case study for others.
The Desi in me is feeling most sentimental and jealous that a government benefit that could get you up to $10,000 dollars takes less than 5 minutes to fill out. 😯😯

#NewIndia makes you jump through multiple OTPs and captchas just to book a train ticket.

Great work, Sir. The official line continues to lie and deflect.

In #OldIndia, this investigation & research would have been done by a newspaper or news channel. When we actually had investigative journalism in public interest.

Now Twitter is the only real news source in India.
I remember the #OldIndia even of, say 2012, where there was some real investigative news story or "sting operation" happening all the time. When, for a few fleeting years, the press was actually being the fourth pillar of democracy.

Now just wire, scroll, caravan, tnm, AltNews.
A decade ago, I used to tell American friends how we don't have any fox News or nypost or hannity types in India. That was the #OldIndia

Now I tell American friends how Indian media is like 12 different fox News and nypost and 36 different hannity types. #NewIndia is SuperFox!

The journey to #Nazi concentration camps and gas chambers started with the #economic_boycott of Jews by hardcore Nazis at first, and then by propaganda-fed German people.

Assorted laws/bans helped legitimise the persecutions.

Those who forget History are condemned to repeat it?
Relentless 24x7 propaganda.

Economic boycott.
Public calls for extermination.
Vigilante violence that goes unpunished.
With tacit/overt support from the State.

#NewIndia: a snapshot of 1930s #Nazi Germany…
“Public humiliation under the Nazis had three primary functions…To exacerbate the suffering of victims…To remind German public about the risks of opposing Nazis…To visibly degrade victims in order to create critical distance between Nazis and victims.”

And the name "Vande Bharat" is grammatically incorrect. 🙄
If bhakts want to know why "Vande Bharat" is grammatically incorrect, they don't even need to be actual serious Sanskrit experts like @AudreyTruschke. Literally the first school lesson in Sanskrit is the difference between nominative and accusative.

Sangh is weak in Sanskrit.
Vande Bharatam.

I remember when the trains were launched, many people pointed this out. Apparently they didn't go with it cos "it sounds very madrasi" (actual words from a Whatsapp warrior).

Only in India would a billionaire going to a legislature to accept a random taxpayer funded award in a car and then going home in the same car be lauded for simplicity.
This has gotten so old.

Murthy family still lives a pretty nice life that 99% Indians don't have the wealth to live. But they are so thirsty for praise that NRN flying economy instead of first class or Sudha taking an Alto instead of a Maserati is talked up by pliant journos.
When I was a young youth in college, I also was full of admiration for NRN's supposed "simplicity".

Then an older friend said lol, the main purpose of that is so they can give employees lowest possible salaries & perks & benefits, justifying it as "see even NRN so simple!"

🪡@narendramodi will take part in the International Yoga Day show in #Mysore on June 21.

In a nation that buys ‘The Daily Spectacle’, this is just another dot in @PMOIndia’s diary.

But what goes into an event like this—for hashtags to trend for a few hours on Tuesday? #YogaDay
2️⃣ Modi doing #Yoga in #Mysuru is a big deal.

All three great gurus of the 20th century—T.Krishnamacharya, B.K.S. Iyengar, K. Pattabhi Jois—grew under the patronage of the Maharajas of Mysore.

UN designated June 21 as #InternationalDayofYoga only after Modi became PM in 2014.
3️⃣ Still, a one-hour show led by the PM at Mysore Palace takes some doing.

Coverage in Mysore’s local dailies #StarOfMysore and #Andolana gives a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes.

It is a sobering lesson of how a partipatory democracy can be a made-for-TV spectacle.

#Opinion: India’s #bulldozer raj is as far as we can get from nation building

Nations forged in devastation resemble petty mafias of muscle and flex. Neither a new politics, nor a vibrant economy can flourish in this morass.

#Opinion: Emboldened by the ricocheting Bulldozer Raj, BJP leaders are on record, urging state authorities to identify and demolish the illegal properties of “rioters” and “Bangladeshis and Rohingyas”.

@professor_sud writes
While there is palpable confusion and a lack of direction in the economic sphere, there is more clarity in politics. India is being moulded into a Hindu majoritarian state, writes @professor_sud

I can neither confirm nor deny the rumors that I'm under consideration for US Ambassador to the Republic of Maharashtra.
So many Indians having full meltdown over a kid from Bangladesh playing around with a map! 😂😂

How fragile is your idea of nationhood that 20 seconds on an image app is enough to shake it to it's core! 🙄🤷🏽‍♂️

Stratospheric insecurity, this!

Is it just me or was Indian Twitter not this touchy back in the day? Something like this in blogging days would not have brought an avalanche of hate in the comments, but jokes in response and different maps of our own. Somehow India seemed less insecure then.

Oh yes, in 2016, I was literally live tweeting a bad experience at a Pune passport office that a friend was having in my & wife's presence. And many replies went "but passport office has become very efficient now, my renewal was so easy".

It's a new WhatsApp university culture.
Didn't used to be like this, the culture. Usually Indians commiserated with each other on the difficulties they had with the gormint or babus.

In the past decade, people act like criticism of any govt entity is a personal slur against their family.

And of course, the standard response, "he's making it up", tho I literally tagged other people with me who could confirm it. And was live tweeting the whole passport renewal experience.

But every other minute, "no no, passport renewal in India is very easy now"
