THREAD: I grew up in the Hasidic enclave of Monsey, (signs were in Hebrew). Im Jewish but not religious, Im culturally Jewish, a concept reformed Jews repeatedly explaine to non Jews. Sadly, part of that is living your life knowing people hate you for simply being Jewish.
Judisum is a culture, and dispite thousands of years to exposure and varying levels of integration into the societies we have lived in, it continues to be a insular culture with a long memory. We have been chased all over the world since biblical times looking for safe havens.
Something I remember from childhood and listening to adults speak is the distinct impression that no matter how much power or influences Jews might have at any given time in any given place that all can be taken away and replaced with hate. One only needs to look at the
fully integrated and influential Jewish community in pre WWII Germany to understand this fear is not some historical neuroses we are hanging on too from our biblical past. In the matter of 10 years Jews went from government ministers to being targeted and harrassed and
another 10 years latter rounded up and shipped to labor and death camps. Living as a Jew in America I have always felt safe. But I knew from the lessons instilled in me when I was young that could change and it appears it is changing right in this moment in history.
I dont live my life in fear, I am a New Yorker I know what it's like to be targeted by hate. But I do live smartly bc I know that hate is real and I am hated for things I cannot change, for how I was born, for where I was born.
When I decided to study abroad in college I had my pick of anywhere in the world. But without consulting any one I narrowed it down quickly. I had a few considerations, where can an American Jew and a gay man walk the streets and feel safe at night. I loved in Holland for 6
glorious months that I wouldnt trade for anything except maybe the chance to really choose where I wanted to go based on my interests rather than my peace of mind. This is a rather tame example as I thankfully havent encountered the rampant antisemitism that identifiably
Jewish people face. But I hear things in the media and especially from the President over the past few years. Globalist is a derogatory word for Jewish, it's a reference to the conspiracy of a secret cabal of international Jewish bankers revolving around the Rothschilds family.
George Soros, he is Jewish and European and a very progressive philanthropist. But balmining him, without an iota of evidence, for funding fake crisis actors, false flags, a caravan of mothers escaping gang violence from Honduras is the same as saying the Jews are behind it.
What other reason is there? There are plenty of other rich people on the left in this country but Soros is almost always blamed. The evidence is all around you, you judt need to look. The rise of right wing parties in Europe over the past decade has lead to increased
Antisemitic attacks, in France and elsewhere. There is nothing different what is happening here. No one is on TV, yet, saying round up the Jews. We arent there yet and hopefully we wont ever get to that place in America. But
the same people inspiring hate, inspiring terrorist attacks, inspiring murders and pushing conspiracy theories are blaming Soros and "Globalitsts" at every turn for things they dont like, the same people saying globalists conspiracies control the media and want to destroy America
You might hate a caravan of starving mothers and children walking thousands of miles through jungles and desert to try and escape one of the most violent places on earth. That makes you callus, uncaring and possibly racist. And that is a thread for a nnnnnj other day, but what
Jews fear most, what precipitated the Holocaust in Germany was being blamed for everything, for every problem. For things that in large part have nothing to do with us. That is what is started to happen in America. Just this weekend
10 Jews were murdered this weekend bc a man was afraid a caravan was part of a Jewish plot to destroy America. We have no defense against this other than to fight it at its source, the normalization and dissemination of racist and antisemitic conspiracies.
We must change the course of discourse in America, not for the Jews, LGBTQ, blacks, Latinos, Muslims, Hindus, but for the white Christians who's only exposure to the rest of us is through media. If all they know is what they see/hear on TV & online that is what they will believe.
This is exactly what I am talking about.

The first President of the United States with a Jewish child and Jewish grandchildren should not have to be persuaded to denounce antisemitism.
