•For decades Turkey has labeled all Kurds in its territory and on its borders terrorists (PPK(Turkey), YPG(Syria), and Iraqi Kurds)

•Syrian civil war starts and Iraqi Kurds and YPG are strategic allies to US fighting ISIS in Iraq and ISIS/Assad in Syria

•Turkey saber rattles at Iraqi Kurds and YPG but not much else since they are important US allies ans US troops are embedded with both forces for training and logistical support.

Past few days:

• US backed Kurdish forces in Syria major victory against remnants of ISIS.

• Turkey announces major offensive against Kurdish PKK in their territory (previously threatening the same to YPG)

• Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan/Trump have phone call

• Trump withdraws US from Syria without even consulting Pentagon or Secretaries of relevant depts

So there you have it. Trump is not declaring victory because we have achieved our objectives, since just last week the US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen Dunford told Congress we have a long way to go before a pullout is advisable.

Furthermore, Russia (which has its primary warm water port in Syria) and Iran both want the US to withdraw troops so they can fight the Syrian rebels (a large portion of which are YPG) with out worrying about escalating conflict with the US through accidental deaths of US troops

So now, we are going to cede the battlefield to Russian/Iranian forces in Syria and allow Assad to reassert control over Kurdish areas and allow Turkey to expand its war against Kurds to include the YPG in Syria allowing for unimpeded bombardment of Kurdish-Turkish border areas.

The US is now going to leave its most strident allies in the region, even closer than Turkey (a NATO ally), over the past few years to slaughter at the hands of the Russians, Iranians, Turkish, and Assad's forces. This is exactly what Putin and Erdoğan want.
