I'm baffled why people think Trump can't end birthright citizenship with an executive order.

Sure he can.

He can do whatever he wants unless Congress and the Supreme Court decide to stop him. They have thus far proven unwilling.
When you say, "this is clearly unconstitutional," you're assuming that when Trump executes the order, law enforcement will ignore it, courts will deem it illegal and the House could impeach him.

You're betting on ICE, Brett Kavanaugh and Paul Ryan. Good luck with that.
I strongly advise that you vote next week for people willing to act as a check on the President's executive power

Here is a thing politicians 8,000 miles away from the fighting have never understood in 15 years of fighting in Iraq and Syria: The U.S. Army considers the Kurdish peshmerga an extension of itself. Much like individual platoons and companies are loyal to their interpreters.
American soldiers and Kurdish peshmerga have fought and died together fighting Ba'athists and ISIS.

The American people aren't loyal to the Kurds. Elected officials aren't loyal to the Kurds. But the Army is. And Mattis knows it. And Trump is going to have to deal with this now.
