So, @facebook allowed a company to create a "white genocide conspiracy theory" category to target ads & now that category exists for everyone. I just sent an email to Facebook's PR team at press@fb.com to let them know what I think about that. theintercept.com/2018/11/02/fac…
I continue to feel so deeply concerned about the tech industry's role in spreading hate, violence, and disinformation in our communities. The entire tech industry needs to become less self service in order to ensure it meets even the most basic standards of human decency.
Why haven't the major players in the tech industry joined forces to tackle big problems like hate speech, paid trolling, and disinformation campaigns? They should have formed a working group on this long ago.

Only potential problem: advertisers can hyper-target in the way that won the election for Donald without a user's privacy being compromised... In majority of cases, you're targeting people without getting to know who they are, based on past behavior. It's FB's whole model.

Today I'm ignoring that embarrassing sideshow of a president in favor of writing a thread about just a few of the many things about last night's election that are making me *really* happy today. Feel free to add on to it!
First, I just want to point out that for the Dems to have re-taken the House in an economy this strong is very impressive. Unseating incumbents is *really* hard to do & doing so in a strong economy, nearly impossible. Many candidates who did it were 1st timers too. Uh. May. Zing.
Next, I’m thrilled Dems gained SIX new state trifectas, states where they control gov's office & both legislature chambers. Like CA, these states can now push back hard against the horror show coming out of DC, especially NY, which is now _officially_ East Coast Resistance HQ.

Once you read it, consider this: "The paid promotion was approved by Facebook’s advertising wing. After we contacted the company for comment, Facebook promptly deleted the targeting category, apologized, and said it should have never existed in the first place."
advertisers should consider the implications here if Facebook is able to stuff this interest category with 168,000+ people. Always brings up serious questions around Facebook's algorithmically generated interest groups for micro-targeting.

After 70 years of imperial/neoliberal indoctrination the web of lies is so obviously absurde (9/11, Skripal, WH = ISIS, etc.), that it is dissoluting. The empathetic humanity connects, closes ranks and sends their eternal psychopathic rulers and their lackeys into nowhere land.
The "evil empire" is a lifelong three year old child. I certainly loved my children at that age too, however only because they created not only a surreal mess, but also made steady progress.

A great documentary about psychopathy and society:
The elite invented "democracy" to protect them from the empathetic people. The media are their means for misleading the people sedated by "democracy". This is definitely a bad thing since the people have become educated and the elite almost totally insane.
