The @GOP KNOWS they can only win if they cheat. Months of reports of voter suppression in 3 of the most racist states in the union, and still these races were close?

Now you're upset because you dared hope? And it wasn't enough to overcome centuries of entrenched white supremacy? As much as I hate repeating myself: Hope is not a strategy.

You know what is? Replace rotten timbers with beams (Senryaku 31)

The house we think of as democracy in the United States was built on a racist, misogynistic, anti-indigenous foundation.

A fresh can of paint and new drapes every few years isn't going to keep us from sinking deeper into this morass.

The only way to remove the ability to cheat is to replace the foundation (every homeowner just cringed).

How do you do that? You take your wins in less fortified areas. And then you change things from within. You elect the youngest congressperson ever FROM THE BRONX.

Seat two Muslim congresspeople while you're at it. Elect an openly gay governor, two indigenous congresspeople, and more women and brown people than have ever held office in this country.

You lose some big, public battles but win a bunch of small battles where they're vulnerable, and establish a beachhead.

You take the house, so you can claim oversight over critical committees (Judiciary, Intelligence, Financial, Oversight), and the Speaker.

And then you acknowledge that a cheater's response to any loss is to figure out how to cheat better and harder next time, so you prep accordingly.

And as easy (and satisfying) as it is to point fingers, you don't blame people, you blame systems.

The intent of individuals is largely moot if the system they operate inside is malevolent.

Today the system that governs this country is gayer. It's browner, more feminine, younger.

And while it's still battling the Goliath that is white supremacy, you can feel it gathering smooth, rainbow colored, fist-sized stones to hurl at its big, dumb forehead.

Catch your breath. Finish last night's celebration / commiseration booze.

Lick your wounds, laugh, and then gird your fucking loins. We're about to get a double-down like we've never seen, because white patriarchy will not go quietly into the night.
