One person I am thinking of this morning is @Yascha_Mounk, who frequently warns that that in dealing with authoritarian populist movements, it is the second election that matters: if the populists win that, it gravely threatens democracy. We needed to create a check. We did that.
I wish very much that we had pulled down the proverbial Lenin statues too. But I will take this result.
Democacy is in a stronger position than it was yesterday.

This piece by @woodruffbets spins out what the White House lawyers and their allies imagine to be the mechanism by which they will stifle the Mueller findings, assuming they take the form of some kind of report that contains material plausibly covered by executive privilege.
Here is the simple reason why it won't work:
Even assuming that the executive privilege claims are valid and will be upheld and are sustainable in the face of the political pressure the administration will receive on the subject, and that is a heck of an assumption, executive privilege does not cover conclusions.

My question, @brithume, is what turns on this distinction you're drawing? The president has repeatedly said he had nothing to do with Russia--at a time he was endeavoring to build a large building there and Russian intelligence was hacking his political opponents.
At the very time he was calling on them to do so and praising Putin. At the very time his campaign staff and advisers were having meetings with Russian cutouts. Are you really contending that this is the sort of candor we should expect from our leaders?

I've been reading about the Whiskey Ring scandal as part of @Susan_Hennessey and my book research, and wow, Grant's reaction to the prosecutions is really Trumpy. Consider:
(1) He fired a special prosecutor for questioning his authority to interfere with the activities of the secretary of the treasury.
(2) He drew a red line around his sons and demanded that reports that they were investigative subjects be rebutted.

On September 17, 2010, President Obama announced the appointment of Sen. Warren as Assistant to the President and Special Advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to set up the new agency.

I’ve seen people discussing jobs for Labor Day and it made me think of my first job out of High School. It was an eye-opener, doing data entry for medical manufacturer Schering-Plough in Kenilworth, NJ. I was making $7.25 an hour, which was above minimum wage back then.
It was a giant warehouse operation packing gift-boxes for doctors with trials of drugs and all sorts of trinkets - golf balls and crystal mugs and travel metal detectors and whatever would make the doctor remember the product because performance is meaningless.
I got the job through a temp agency. Everyone who worked there full time hated it and generally tried to pawn off responsibility. I could type, so they offered me a chair for the Summer. They started loading me up with other responsibilities, especially the difficult ones.

One thing I’m grateful to God for with our political/democratic experience since 2015 is that Nigerians can now hopefully see that certain political behavioural patterns are not unique to PDP politicians but inherently human, regardless of which party they belong to.
These are things the PDP was once condemned for and its good to see those who used to point fingers from outside now engaging in all sorts of intellectual acrobatics and gymnastics in order to make excuses for those they admire.

The saga of the NGF in 2013 comes to mind.
In June 2013, the Nigerian Governors Forum was about to (s)elect a new chairman and the position was zoned to the North from PDP which at the time had majority of the Governors, with ethnic permutations coming into play.

The Northern State Governors Forum held a mini-primaries.

One person can make a difference. I’ve had more than one person, but not all of those one persons were equal. Two stood out - my advisor and coauthor @cornwl and Al Roth. I’ll just share this one anecdote about Roth so that others who only know about his work can also learn about
his character and commitment to the development of junior economists, even ones WAAY outside his feasible network. Basically, long story short - I read Roth and Sotomayor’s book three times while dissertating, but the third time I did all the proofs and so actually learned some-

I've observed some movements taking off on Twitter. Some for #MedEd, raising awareness, knowledge sharing, inspiration and sharing failings, wounds & triumphs. Generally they support creative expression in 280 characters. Awesome! 2/
As these movements gain momentum, more people want to join in b/c #belonging. I'm seeing a disturbing trend of sharing experiences of patients/clients to promote how deep & human they are. Some are purely intended, some not. 3/
