This is thought-provoking campaign on gender pay-gap.....today's the 'last day' women get paid (as it were) via my friend @fullerette3 #OutOfOffice for #EqualPayDay @WEP_UK
@fullerette3 @WEP_UK That said, this discussion often muddies pay-equality and the gender pay-gap.

Which is to say, this isn't an "equal pay for equal work" issue, in a lot of cases, its a structural issue - not enough women at the top earning the higher salaries, for complex reasons.
@fullerette3 @WEP_UK Basically it would be in everyone's interests (men's too, on the subject of access to affordable childcare) if workplace culture shifted to enable more women to retain career paths while taking time off for the joint enterprise that is raising children.

So seems point 1 is an extension/elucidation of what @DLidington told #r4today on Dec 14.

FWIW am told by Brussels sources this is now focus of UK 'ask' on reassurances/ clarifications. To set clear aspiration date for trade deal to avoid backstop /1

Today was the last day of the class I help teach on Abrahamic religions. At the very end, a student came to me and said: "When I signed up, I wasn't sure I'd feel safe given that I belong to a minority religion under attack in the US right now. Thank you for proving me wrong."
Every kid that come to college deserves classrooms where they feel they can be themselves without having to justify their existence. A place where they feel welcomed, valued and most of all, safe. It takes very little to make that happen. If only we tried.
What special thing did I do?

A) I asked everyone for their pronouns on day 1.
B) I told them we were going to disagree with opinions, but respect the person.
C) I made sure everyone had a chance to speak their mind. Even if I had to wait for them to come up with the words.

Gender pay gap:

New UK @ONS analysis shows that the big difference between men and women's hourly pay is that significantly more women have really badly paid work (around min wage)
@ONS This is because many more women work part-time and, to be technical for a second, part timers get stuffed in the UK labour market
@ONS It is predominantly mothers who work part-time. So this represents a motherhood penalty....

Because UK society has been rubbish at sorting this out...

According to @ARLnews's 2016-2017 annual salary survey, while there's still a gender pay gap, high-level administration positions at University Libraries have hit/surpassed proportional representation... I think?

Specifically, table 18 and table 3b. I'm counting "high-level" as Director, Assoc/Assist. Director, and Branch Head bc that's how ARL grouped them.

1st, total population breakout (excl. law+medical libs): 61.9% women, 38.1% men. 2/
2nd, high-level admin composition are 63.95% women, 36.05% men, meaning men are slightly underrepresented (~2%). BUT, the wage gap still swings in favor of men: the women at the top make $0.90 to $0.98 per man$. The gap is smallest at the top and biggest at the bottom.

Today is a very bittersweet day for me and my co-teachers. It's the last day of school, and it's time to say goodbye. We have a mixed age classroom, ages 2.5 to 5, so not everyone will be leaving - but some are moving on to kindergarten. 1/
One of these children entered my classroom at age 2.5 and he has been with me for three years. I ran into him and his family at a local amusement park this weekend, where he was celebrating his birthday. Today is his last day in my classroom. He has spent half his life here. 2/
Many of our younger children will be returning in the fall, but not all. Not all of the parents know for sure whether their child will be returning yet. For some, it could be the last time I ever see them, and I won't know it. 3/
