Reddit is being a bitch for some reason and I don't have a website, so I am posting something here about places that accept unsolicited pitches and pay. If that interested you, awesome! If not, ignore all the tweets.
On another post someone said they had no idea how to begin a career writing online. Since I do it for a living and LOVE IT, I decided to put together a very basic starter list of websites.
All of them PAY (you deserve compensation, not just “exposure,” although the amount varies wildly) and they all accept unsolicited pitches (which means they don’t require you to have past publications.) None of them (with one half exception) require a fee to submit.
I have divided them into fiction/poetry and nonfiction and included sites on both lists if they accept both. The link should take you to the correct submission/information page.
Please don’t get discouraged if your first idea isn’t accepted. The first site I ever pitched to, it took four tries to get one success, and even that was considered pretty fast.
There are a million more websites, newspapers, and magazines out there that would fit this list, but I had to stop at some point. Please add any others you know about (as long as they fit the above rules.)

An addition from someone on Reddit! A podcast that reads out flash/short fiction.

Another Reddit added resource! This is apparently a great place to look for FICTION markets that pay.

New resource addition courtesy of Reddit! This place has sci-fi/fantasy market information and according to the person who shared it, it’s kept very up-to-date.

Just got a Twitter tip! This site updates monthly with anthologies that are taking submissions!

Another tip! This one is a bit different. You submit a short story (not sure about length) and readers vote on their favorite. The monthly winner gets “no less” than $35. I assume other submissions are not paid.

This Reddit tip is SO outside my wheelhouse, but I’ll pretend I know what I’m talking about. You write a game using a simple program they have, they host it, and you get part of the profits. NOT PAID UPFRONT.
