Here’s the thing about my taxes. I pay quite high property taxes. I don’t live in a mansion. I live in an older 2+ 1 bedroom, 2 bathrooms. I live in a decent neighbourhood. My house needs renovations. But, I pay high property taxes, I pay for my roads to be cleared.
I pay so that my son goes to a decent school. I pay my property taxes so that many different things in our day to day infrastructure are taken care of. Many things I don’t have to think about. Nor do you. I pay knowing that it will probably help people who can’t afford things.
I pay on top of my property taxes, income tax. I know I’m paying for things I don’t have to think about. The firehall down the street, if my house should ever catch fire, the police station, if I should ever need to call them. An ambulance which I have had to use several times
I pay knowing that if my son should ever become sick I will have amazing doctors to help him, without having to sell my home or kidneys to treat him. I pay knowing that any child who falls ill can see a doctor to treat them. I pay knowing all these things matter.
I pay knowing if someone loses their job, they can afford to see a doctor. I pay knowing that if someone is in a car accident the roads will be cleared, the people will be treated, the city will keep moving.
I pay knowing if a horrid storm hits my city, the roads will be cleared, hydro will be restored, Community Centre’s will be open to those who need it. I pay knowing that life throws curveballs & things change in an instance. Remember this tidbit for life can do this quickly.
I also pay for my son to go to Scholars 2x a week. Helping him exceed. I know that by me paying full price, others who can’t afford it, may get a break & be able to send their children there also, so they too can exceed.
You see I’m Canadian, I believe I’m the luckiest person for being born in Canada 🇨🇦 My son knows at age 6 that being Canadian is winning the lottery of life. We have universal healthcare, we have fantastic public schools, we have been given luxury that others dream of.
So my high property taxes & my income taxes are going into the “pot” to help me and mine but also to help yours and others. Do not take these things for granted, as Conservatives the CPC wants to end this. What happens if your life changes in an instant?
What happens if your life changes in an instant, could you & yours survive private healthcare, privatization of healthcare system includes seeing a doctor, specialists, ambulances. What happens if you can’t afford private insurance? Do you let your child die? Do you know?
As you rail against our taxes & democracy. Ask is your job guaranteed? Can you say you will never lose it? Can you say you have enough banked away to pay specialists? Can you pay chemo, MRI, CT scans, flights to Toronto? Can you survive without universal healthcare without a job?
You see I’m a single mother, I’m banking money for my son to attend university. Some for my retirement. Knowing that I can do this because of Universal Healthcare. So I don’t mind paying my high property taxes or income tax. I ask you to think about the facts. Facts of your life.
I will add. To those who want Americans healthcare, they can travel there & pay for those services. For if you want Americans healthcare their privatization, go there, pay out of pocket. Then come back & show us your Bill. Then I’ll show you the one I don’t have.
