The thing that gets me here is that criticizing current refugee policy is equated to supporting the admission of "an unlimited number of refugees." Refugee admissions are down 74% since FY 2016, and the 2016 numbers were not all that high by historical standards
Here it as a share of population. By this measure, FY 2018 refugee admissions were the lowest on record (record goes back to 1975).
Also, I'm pretty @SRuhle lives in New Jersey, not New York. In any case, NJ welcomed 24 refugees in FY 2018 and NY 129, while @TomCottonAR's state of Arkansas took in ... zero static1.squarespace.com/static/580e427…
Sorry, inserted the wrong chart in my share of population tweet. Here's the right one
Also, I meant to say above that "I'm pretty sure @SRuhle lives in New Jersey," not that I'm pretty. When something is wrong on the internet, I type too fast.
Here's a chart on per-capita refugee resettlement by state in 2016, a more typical year than super-low-admission 2018. Both AR and NJ are low-refugee states; AZ, ID, KY, MN, ND, NE, SD and VT lead the way
More data on refugee resettlement, via @OWHnews. Since 2002 8,973 refugees resettled in New Jersey, dataomaha.com/refugees/state…, 272 in Arkansas dataomaha.com/refugees/state…
Shout out to Minneapolis-St. Paul (just the two cities, not the whole metro area), which with a combined population 24% as big as Arkansas' and 8% of New Jersey's have welcomed ... 25,603 refugees since 2002 dataomaha.com/refugees/state…
Also, since I've become such a Sioux Falls booster, can't leave it out here either: 3,824 refugees since 2002 in a city of 176,888 — a city that has continued to attract lots of non-refugees, business, etc. dataomaha.com/refugees/state… bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…
