1/ My Catholic church is getting rid of it’s library. They say nobody uses it, but it was hidden away and never updated—lots of post-Vatican II titles with balloon-writing covers, no children’s books.
2/ So I’m fighting back. I’m going to buy a book cart—just one first—and fill it with new titles, children’s books, books in French (the Parish is half Central African). That way we can wheel it out and it won’t be hidden.
3/ Your suggestions welcome! I need a cheap book cart, ideas for picking up a decent starter library for a few hundred bucks, max.

One of the sad things the tragedy in Pittsburgh has revealed is the anti-Semitism lurking in some traditionalist Catholic circles. And yet it's worth remembering how this was a major point of division between traditionalists & the theological movements that led to Vatican II. /1
As is well known, anti-Semitism has had an inglorious but venerable run in Catholicism. Related to it, but never universally held, is the theological tradition of supersessionism: that the covenant with the Jews has been superseded in Christ, and so abrogated. /2
Within the Liturgical Movement of the 20th century, as well as the greater ressourcement theological movement that sought to renew the Church by reappropriating Biblical and Patristic sources, there was a strong move against supersessionism, as well as against anti-Semitism. /3

All right, let's attempt a thread on the Catholic Church and the death penalty. The starting point for the current debate is that historically the church has clearly accepted the death penalty as licit. To describe it as an intrinsic evil would therefore reverse past teaching.
There are anti-death penalty Catholic thinkers who argue that past teaching on this question was real but not authoritative/infallible, and therefore a reversal is possible. This is the position taken, for instance, by E. Christian Brugger in this debate:

The approach that the Vatican has taken since John Paul II has not gone this far, however. Instead, the pope and the catechism made a prudential argument for the abolition of the death penalty in modern wealthy societies, on grounds that it was unnecessary for societal safety.

My dad is an amazing dad for so many reasons. He loves me. He teaches me with so much wisdom. He always believes in me and wants me to achieve what I set out to strive for. All the normal great stuff about a dad.
Over the past couple of years, culminating in the past month or so, I’ve come to realize that his greatest strengths are ones I didn’t appreciate as much. Or, in some cases, felt annoyed by.
