2/ By the way, I don't think the answer is to shut down all Immigration Removal Centres. I don't think any European state has no immigration detention. But the UK remains the *only* state in Europe to have no limit on the length of time a person can be detained for removal
3/ That is the villain in this piece - although centres themselves are also terribly run. But if there was e.g. a 3-month time limit then it would hugely focus minds and ensure that people aren't just left to rot fo years or literally forgotten about for months as can happen

What a shame. I was heartened to see the Golders Green mosque, which got a lot of nasty criticism from within the Jewish community when it took over the building, was organising an outreach event commemorating Muslims who helped Jews during the Holocaust. Now cancelled.

The high cost of living and bizarre/oppressive regulatory environment make California a pretty terrible place to start and run a business.
People on here think I’m some hardcore liberal. I’m not. I’m pretty moderate.

Fiscally conservive, socially liberal, but tend to vote for more on socially liberal side.

Both parties have some good ideas and some very stupid ones. Being an adult means thinking for yourself.
I will admit that I find new wave leftism and its focus on identify politics very off putting.

But I also find the rights’ gravitation towards hyper nationalism (which really is a swing back against the former) just as disgusting.

My oxygen machine just shut off and sent out a long beep and now I am somewhat panicked about not having air.
I called the medical equipment company, but it's a long time till morning when they come and bring another one.
I have two tanks = 6hrs.
#chronicillness is so terrible.
And the people who are on call are not very nice.
They always seem very put-out that you need to be able to breathe.
So The Wife just called--she teaches in another state on Wednesdays. She said yes, we do have several oxygen tanks at the office, which she will pick up on the way home. And one of my doc friends on here sent me a fix-it vid for her for when she gets home to check the machine.
