Elliot Schrage takes the fall. Facebook exec team, Zuck in particular, are essentially amoral. There is nothing redeeming about Facebook. Working for them amounts to complicity. Apology tours won't work. newsroom.fb.com/news/2018/11/e…
Seriously folks Sandberg's comment is insulting. It's the usual, apologies followed by "we must do better". We've had this for over two years. It's not working. It will not work. The PR stuff has to stop. Somewhere a buck must stop.
"a big thank you once again". For fuck's sake lads. Can't see the wood for the trees. What part of the word "accountability" does the Facebook exec team not understand?
At this stage the world is better off without Facebook *existing*. The net benefits no longer exists, if they ever did. Yet the exec team are either too naive, or have too much to lose, by admitting just how bad things are. Reminds me of subprime loans in 2008. Toxic.
I've re-read the statement and you should too. It's outrageous. WTF is this meaningless verbiage and non-apology from Sheryl Sandberg? Is this representative of executives today? Who's fault is the "enormous pressure" folks?
To the FB people that I know follow me: this culture is toxic. This attitude is toxic. This washing of hands of responsibility is toxic. This "we didn't intend the consequences of our actions" is toxic. There's no moral compass at the top. There is no accountability.
In a normal company: Zuckerberg and Sandberg would resign (or be fired). Both of them. No questions asked. But Facebook isn't normal. It's a dictatorship lacking a country. And one in need of a revolution.
I've read this Sandberg comment again. It's unspeakably terrible and cynically posted on Thanksgiving, as ever, to bury it. Facebook is a forlorn company. The market will eventually realise that it's just like subprime - doomed to fail.
And to turn one of Zuck's own lockdown moments on its head:

Facebook Delenda Est.
