X : Should I become a developer?
Me : Why not? NB, once we have conversational programming - ... it's a short hop to mix in maps (the other way) - and the future of engineering will look more like -
i.e. by full stack developer we won't mean the full "technology" stack but eventually the entire system from a business to a nation state (yes, I map at policy level). We've got wild ride ahead of us over the next few decades and we've only just started.
The future is always one where we build systems that the past cannot truly contemplate.
X : How do you know what your maps future role will be?
Me : ...
1) I assume my maps will be superseded i.e. someone will find a better way of mapping.
2) I don't know what the future will be, the best I can do is anticipate with reason.
3) I use maps to direct mapping itself.

Me : University or commercial?
X : Is there a difference?
Me : In academia, people tend to do the research before they submit the proposal to do the research in order to fit in with some sort of scheduled research delivery process / gantt chart ...
... i.e. they spend the time "researching" actually doing research on something else which once completed is submitted as the next research proposal so they guarantee milestones of when it'll be delivered (as it is already done). It's all about hitting KPIs etc.
X : What about commercial research?
Me : Well, a lot isn't actual research in the sense of creating a new field. It's more applied research. So there tends to be less uncertainty. Other areas, well you just have to embrace the chaos. Of course, people still want Gantt charts.

X : Acquisitions.
Me : Hmmm, a bucketload of tech acquisitions around Kubernetes. Expect big juicy deals.
X : It's the future?
Me : No. Mostly cash rich past giants with no future being clueless.
X : No market for Kubernetes?
Me : Some very profitable niches. Savvy tech buyer will wait until hype dries up before swooping in for tasty acquisitions around 2021-2022. This year will mainly be the clueless with big chequebooks. Hoping some friends will make it big this year.
X : The market doesn't operate to make your friends rich.
Me : Are you sure? It has been doing a good job of it - Cloud, Big Data, Containers ... it's always the same.
X : So, where is the future?
Me : I thought you were interested in acquisitions? They are not the same.

So: its not so confusing what Trump supporters see in him. As well as feeling supported by his supremacist beliefs, they see him as a patriarch who approves of them and who they can receive narcissistic supplies from by positioning themselves as an extension of his grandiosity
For the @45dreamsblog Trump dream collection- dreams of explicit approval of 45 often involve him popping in and shoring up the dreamees self-esteem:
“Best job ever!”
“Made me feel better than the people who had been bullying me”
“Gave me a huge tip for my hard work”
People do this all the time with idealized powerful objects, individuals and institutions.

“I’m important because I got into Harvard”

“My art teacher said I have real promise!”

“My therapist says Im doing really well”

With Florence bearing down on the Carolinas and Manghut on the Phillipines, Puerto Rico still in ruins one year after Maria, and Idlib awaiting destruction at the hands of fascists, it's beyond clear what this world will do to the coming climate refugees.
Nothing happens in isolation, not a hurricane, or a drought, or a flood. There will be a political context to every sea level rise, every heat wave, every crop failure. And the world is becoming such that those most vulnerable to these are the ones who are most vilified.
A changing climate will stress every aspect of modern civilization, from supply chains to governments, and many are responding in such a way as to amplify and direct the damages caused by climate change toward those most vulnerable to it.
