More than once this week I have pondered what the best approach to reporting is when the overarching story involves some of the most notorious unreliable narrators in political life. It’s a tough question, and I’m not sure I know the answer.
I’ve thought about it a lot in recent months, and before then, but the relevance of the question has just seemed to reach a fever pitch this past week.
In any event, if you see me not talking about a story, don’t assume I’m not looking at it, considering it, or trying to do more to investigate it. Sometimes, that could be the case, but a lot of the times I have and I’m just not quite sure how to approach it.
And that’s not a negative statement on others’ reporting, either. It’s just about me needing to do my own thing.
By “how to approach it,” I mean, “how to talk about it on here when I am still working out how to understand it for myself, either through my own analysis or further reporting or whatever.” As unexpected as it might seem, coming from me, sometimes my answer is just not to tweet.
