Washington, D.C. – On Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018 at 11:30 a.m., the House Judiciary Committee will hold an oversight hearing on the Dept of Homeland Security (DHS) where Sec. Kirstjen Nielsen will testify for the first time before the Committee in her capacity as head of the dept.
Among its responsibilities, the Department of Homeland Security and its component agencies are responsible for the administration and enforcement of the United States’ immigration laws, border security, protection of our national leaders, and counterterrorism.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) issued the statement below in advance of this hearing.

Chairman Goodlatte: “The Department of Homeland Security has the important responsibilities of protecting our borders, enforcing immigration laws,
and keeping Americans, the President, and other leaders safe from harm. The House Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over many of Homeland Security’s component agencies – including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services,
and the U.S. Secret Service – and next week we will hear from Secretary Nielsen on the many challenges the Department faces as it carries out its duties.
We look forward to having Secretary Nielsen testify before the Committee on the issues before the Department and how Congress can provide legislative assistance.”
Media Guidance: The hearing will take place in 2141 Rayburn House Office Building and will be webcast live at judiciary.house.gov. On the day of the hearing, media will be allowed access to the committee hearing room at 11:00 a.m.
Congressionally-credentialed members of the media MUST RSVP to their respective Press Gallery no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5. Due to anticipated interest, attendance will be limited to one media representative from each outlet.
We will try to accommodate additional representatives if space is available. Gallery contact information is below:
