This morning I am thinking @ things I have been super wrong about in public. Let's count a few...

* hated "devops" -- HATED it. Corrected people on their usage for years ("no such thing as 'devops engineer'....")
* proclaimed software engineers weren't capable of being on call
* been forthright about my distaste for women-only categories and spaces and "top women in x" lists (they are a necessary evil for progress, and really help many)
* and worst of all... I used to advocate for using ssh in production 🤨
I'm reminded of this while reading @cfrln excellent blog post on the continuous-ing of all things. cloudbees.com/blog/continuou…

"any function that is discontinuous in a software business is an impedance mismatch (with devops)..will neutralize the business impact of those practices"
It's easy to look at a manifesto like this and think "continuous everything??? But we have families and personal lives and OH THE HUMANITY"

But tech serves us. We are its masters, *we* are the ones who negotiate how humane our businesses are. Better tech is a better tool.
Computers of forty years were delicate lumbering beasts that needed constant human creativity and attention to stay running. So we didn't rely on them for much, did we?

Now the world economy rests in our hands. And our tools are far better.
(sec... meeting and my computer seems to have crashed)

lmfao .... timing
... ok, I forget where I was going with this one. Probably something about how technical progress isn't inherently good or bad, it simply is.

We have all the tools we need to address our problems in tech, but we have to be willing to adapt and change -- and change our minds.
In conclusion, this. I always thought overalls could only be worn by people with flatter chests and wider hips. Why? I have no idea. But fuck that one too. Overalls only from now on out.
