LOL. They counted the apps of Zuckerberg and Sandberg’s friends apps that would be booted off of the leaky v1 data API.
This is an astonishing document trove. Methinks Zuckerberg is really going to regret defying his summons to appear before the Grand Committee.
Some quick clippings that popped right out to me reading the chair’s notes follow. There are 250 pages in the trove. #Six4ThreeFiles parliament.uk/documents/comm…

I remember Refresh. Harvested all your data across all your services especially your calendar to assemble dossiers on the people in your upcoming meetings. Used facial recog on the Google Glass app earning it a letter from Senators.

Onavo charts are quite an insight into facebook’s commanding view of the app-based attention marketplace
Different things jumped out to Times reporters. It’s why you gotta read the primary sources if you can. nyti.ms/2E3wHbm
During the @CommonsCMS hearing we heard from Facebook’s Richard Allan that the company was aware of GSR/SCL/CambridgeAnalytica well before first press coverage in Dec 2015, as early as 2013-2014, contemporaneous to the e-mails in the #Six4ThreeFiles
We know that GSR was granted an extension on the API but the details are murky. You can see how Fb was readily making deals with favored developers.
So how would Fb decide who gets whitelisted or extended vs who gets shutdown? Competing for total attention as revealed in the Onavo data like Twitter and run your own social graph? You got shutdown. Appears driven by revenue, marketshare, and PR not privacy. #Six4ThreeFiles
You can see how Fb has radically shifted its stance on this, 5 years on, in the wake of scandals and labels of duopoly and calls for breakup and privacy law crackdowns. techcrunch.com/2018/12/04/fac…
Where’s the concern for the FTC Consent Decree on this email dated Feb 4, 2015? Confirms what @mixblendr says. Facebook didn’t worry about the FTC. Just PR.

Also, Zuck misled Congress when he claimed that users control their data.
That creepy Friends You May Know feature, yeah that’s been harvesting call logs and text messages on Android for years now.

You see how it’s easy to feel skeptical that Facebook is actually GDPR compliant and not in violation of its FTC settlement?
Fb’s PR stance on this is “no comment” because emails are taken out of context. So 250 pages are insufficient context in their view. (But good enough for the courts!)

Having ur privacy invaded sux doesnt it.
Wild to see how different things jump out to people. Gives the public a clear glimpse of the immoral attitudes that led to the scandals that roil the company today. Whether its appetite for anti-competitive predatory behavior, disregard for privacy enforcement, informed consent
One argument that some will make to downplay these #Six4ThreeFiles is that we shouldn’t be surprised that the company was abusing data and its market position. But their contraventions of law were subject to ICO fines. Anti-competitive policy changed in advance of this release.
Recap: An app that harvested bikini pics didn’t get whitelisted (while Cambridge Analytica/GSR granted extension). They sue FB, get discovery docs. UK Parliament investigating CA/GSR summons Zuck for answers. Defiance leads to #Six4ThreeFiles release. Many questions still remain.
As we learned when @ashk4n appeared before Grand Committee, overriding consent controls and evading accountability thru weasel wording and deceptive dark patterns has been a key to market dominance.
Insists they never sold our data…but used it to extract value from partners, in ways we couldn’t understand, especially because they haven’t been honest about it.
Some of the developers whose sketchy apps were kicked off our platform were hired by Facebook and then later dismissed after a secret investigation without explanation to lawmakers but Mark doesn’t talk about Joseph Chancellor.
Official statements complain of cherry-picking but then reference a history of Cambridge Analytica but fail to give context of extension granted to Kogan & Chancellor’s GSR, or offer any context to Chancellor’s subsequent hire into Facebook.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Good day to revisit @mixblendr’s early revelations as a whistleblower which puts the #Six4ThreeFiles in context. theguardian.com/news/2018/mar/…
