The fact that DIT received 600,000 responses to their consultation on new trade agreements does not appear to have received sufficient attention...
It is reasonable to assume that most would not have been supportive of a trade deal with the US, primarily because of fears over food standards or the NHS. And even if most were 'clicktivism' that easily translates to worried MPs.
The source for these clips incidentally comes from Liam Fox's appearance before the Trade select committee yesterday. Unfortunately the committee dodn't probe further on whether a US trade deal would be possible without these elements. data.parliament.uk/writtenevidenc…
This is another key response - the awareness that trade deals lowering barriers globally could increase them with the EU is important and encouraging.
It is a shame that Fox was mostly probed on the Brexit deal rather than future trade policy, as on the basis of some of these replies the policy thankfully away from Free Trade Agreements as the answer to all of our problems /end
