As they split the line into high-end and affordable, people who can pay will always buy the XS lines.
But a huge segment of markets only respond to price changes.
Many, many people who might’ve held onto their aging devices will now leap to Face ID and the gestures, moving most of the market forward.
Apple now doesn’t have to focus on making a giant profit on each piece of hardware.
They can make it reasonable for the millions of underpaid Americans to get a new, great phone for Christmas.
There are more ways to look at this besides pure cynicism.
But wow let’s get more sophisticated than “they’re in it for the money”
There are other proven business strategies out there, and it’d behoove all of us if those were taken into account, not just “different = bad”
Everyone in the Apple community has been asking for them to focus on great software experiences, and now their business model finally lines up for them to do that
