1. Maria Butina, the alleged Russian spy, has a plea deal and a cooperation agreement

If I were the NRA or Donald Trump Jr. I'd be VERY worried.

2. The NRA spent $30 MILLION in support of Trump.

Did any of the money come from Russian sources?

The NRA first said they had 1 Russian donor. Then admitted it was 25 with a "Russian address" but for a total of only 2K and it wasn't spent on elections

3. But the NRA did not address potential Russian money that did not come from a Russian address. Russians are very adept at using shell companies.

Alexander Torshin, who was directing Butina, has connections to organized crime and money laundering

4. The feds would only pursue a cooperation agreement with Butina if they believed she had valuable information on another target.

The NRA is one possibility. Donald Trump Jr. is another.

5. Butina used her connections with the Trump campaign to broker a meeting between Torshin and a top campaign official at the 2016 NRA convention.

It ended up being Donald Trump Jr.

6. In May, a Spanish prosecutor said he turned over wiretaps between Torshin and a convicted money launderer to the FBI.

His conclusion?

"Trump's son should be concerned"

7. The NRA has been able to avoid scrutiny because the way its organized means its finances are opaque.

Now Butina is positioned to pull back the curtain.

1. Trump appears edging toward declaring a "national emergency" and attempting to unilaterally build the wall.

This could backfire spectacularly.

2. Under the National Emergencies Act of 1976, if Trump declares a national emergency to build the wall, the House could immediately pass a resolution to rescind it.

The Senate would then need to vote on the House's resolution within 18 days.

This seems unlikely.

On the other hand, Republicans in the Senate have been generally unwilling to stand up to Trump
