I’ve rewritten this tweet five times, trying to word a pithy comment about this exchange re our pitiful, crumbling courts, and the laughable insouciance of Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service. But I get as far as “Building Champion” and start to cry.

Building. Champion.
If I may, I’d add a request for every court to also have a Culinary Champion, given that the closures of canteens in major court centres mean that the public have nowhere to get a glass of water while they’re sitting in the aforementioned crumbling court buildings.
And how about a Courtwear Champion, to step in when @HMCTSgovuk’s private security contractors try to confiscate barristers’ wigs?
*SANCTIMONY WARNING* Seriously though, this is the stuff that preoccupies the career non-achievers who preside over our justice system. While the system literally collapses, they’re holding meetings appointing Building Champions. It’s the scene from Life of Brian, every f*ing day
I know this looks like a silly thing to get worked up over, but it’s symptomatic of so much wrong with the justice system. The obvious solutions are ignored, while cheap and ineffective managementspeak bullshit is considered a substitute for meaningful action.
I don’t want to be told that there’s a Building Champion. I want to work in a court where the ceiling doesn’t fall in and raw sewage doesn’t leak into the corridors. The government has closed and sold off over 100 court buildings. Use some of that money to fix the remaining ones.
