People who capriciously give small businesses disproportionately bad Yelp reviews are the worst. You can really send people into a personal and financial tailspin.
"I had a great experience the first time and a not as good experience the second time" does not a one-star review make.
And people who are intentionally sabotaging competitors unfairly should be sent to the worst level of Hell.

I don't own a small business, just talked to someone who's great who's devastated by a bad review.
One-star yelp reviews should be reserved for things like: food poisoning, racism, rodents. Not my cocktail costs too much or my overprocessed hair didn't hold the color this time.

I hate looking back at actresses of my or any generation and wondering ‘was it sexual harassment/abuse or just straight up industry sexism’ 🤬🤬🤬
But anyway, as good as Hanks performance was the movie wouldn’t have worked unless @Elizbethperkins wasn’t equally good. And back to the greatness of Penny Marshall, in both cases.

Has the autocorrect (in general and/or on the X) gotten more authoritarian or am I just blaming technology for my own failings?
As a dyslexic, spell checkers allowed me to, well, do my job. I was very fearful of autofill and am decently careful when dealing with words—and there are lots—that i struggle with. But I don’t bother to look at those I don’t. Except maybe now I must.
By “authoritarian” I mean going beyond the general “ducking” for “fucking” stuff and replacing non-swear words you’ve spelled correctly with other words

Seeing a lot of people tweet about this piece and it's definitely interesting and well-written and worth reading but... to be honest, I'm not sure I buy the premise that being named the best burger in America in 2017 is what killed this restaurant. thrillist.com/eat/portland/s…
I say that because if you look at the Yelp reviews, it's clear that this restaurant was having problems *for years*. Was averaging about a 3-star review throughout 2014, for instance, which is really bad by Yelp standards over a sustained period. bit.ly/2DJ3F1v
Moreover, the pre-2017 reviews describe exactly the same problems (slow and surly service, dirty) that the author is worried was caused by the restaurant's newfound popularity. The baseline probability of a restaurant like that closing has to be quite high.

Hebron is the home of one of Islam's holy sites, the Ibrahimi Mosque.
It also happens to be a Jewish holy site named after Abraham as well.
