The border wall is important because of the message it would send, which is also one reason the Left criticizes it. Recent events emphasize that nothing is crueler than giving people the idea they *might* get across the border if they risk their lives and endanger their kids.
In any other area of life, if something was inspiring poor people to get involved with organized crime and abuse their children, the Left would howl for it to be stopped immediately at any expense, Constitution be damned. But open borders? Nah, let's keep that deathtrap forever.
The criminal gangs that facilitate illegal immigration would have a much harder time marketing their services if prospective customers knew it was almost impossible for the gangs to penetrate the U.S. border. Right now it looks like a game they have pretty good odds of winning.
Isn't it clear to everyone now that the lure of a porous border causes untold human suffering? Does this fail to register with the public because media doesn't like to report on the crime and suffering associated with illegal immigration and won't forge a "narrative" about it?
It's the same trick the Left always pulls: hiding the cost of their policies to make cruel lunacy look compassionate and portray criticism as reactionary. To pretend that only xenophobes care about border security, you have to erase the terrible cost of insecurity. /end
