Assuming the story is accurate, Barr not only expressed his views in 20 pages of unsolicited memo to the @TheJusticeDept, he also shared those views with lawyers for a subject of the investigation in question. I am not a legal ethics expert, but...
...I would think that might make his supervision of the Mueller investigation, uh, problematic.

This piece by @woodruffbets spins out what the White House lawyers and their allies imagine to be the mechanism by which they will stifle the Mueller findings, assuming they take the form of some kind of report that contains material plausibly covered by executive privilege.
Here is the simple reason why it won't work:
Even assuming that the executive privilege claims are valid and will be upheld and are sustainable in the face of the political pressure the administration will receive on the subject, and that is a heck of an assumption, executive privilege does not cover conclusions.

My question, @brithume, is what turns on this distinction you're drawing? The president has repeatedly said he had nothing to do with Russia--at a time he was endeavoring to build a large building there and Russian intelligence was hacking his political opponents.
At the very time he was calling on them to do so and praising Putin. At the very time his campaign staff and advisers were having meetings with Russian cutouts. Are you really contending that this is the sort of candor we should expect from our leaders?

I've been reading about the Whiskey Ring scandal as part of @Susan_Hennessey and my book research, and wow, Grant's reaction to the prosecutions is really Trumpy. Consider:
(1) He fired a special prosecutor for questioning his authority to interfere with the activities of the secretary of the treasury.
(2) He drew a red line around his sons and demanded that reports that they were investigative subjects be rebutted.
