Some personal reflections on California's Camp Fire, and how it shifted my thinking on climate change: technologyreview.com/s/612658/the-d…
In short, more and more, I’ve come to fear we’ll be overwhelmed by climate catastrophes, rather than inspired to real action
We’ve simply emitted so much, have achieved so little in the energy transformation & face such overwhelming adaptation costs, that I have trouble envisioning anything other than escalating disasters.
The only wildcards seem to be whether we can pull off carbon capture on a massive scale - which @ElizKolbert warns “has become vital without necessarily being viable” - or decide to try our luck w/ geoengineering, which entails other technical, environmental & geopolitical risks.
