Don’t cry for me Twitter, the truth is I still don’t GAF. 🤪
I’m not #onhere for the purpose of being listed or blue check marked and will proudly be a Susan Lucci of Twitter for the duration without skipping a damn beat. The receipts speak for themselves and I have plenty of them, plus I feel y’all’s love and support every single day. 🔥
But since we’re on the subject, I have some thoughts...
Not everybody who’s resisting #onhere is resisting the same exact shit, in the same exact way, for the same exact reasons. Not every voice of protest is heard and privilege exists even within the #resistance. None of this is new, in fact it’s old as fuck.
Much of the reason I’m constantly discussing the concept of unreliable/reliable White allies is because in order to beat back this fascism we have to start perfecting the art of solidarity and intersectionality. Learn to use your privilege to the advantage of the marginalized.
Hillary said the exact same thing in 2016 and basically her gist was I know I have White privilege and I intend to use it and my platform to amplify the voices of people who aren’t being heard because they don’t look and sound like me. FYI that’s what a reliable ally does.
As POC we already know mainstream America isn’t hearing us and it’s been painfully apparent since this country was founded. We already know that ain’t shit gonna change until an army of *reliable White allies* heeds our warning and spreads it to their peers who aren’t listening.
Resistance isn’t a popularity contest, fan club or list, it’s a fight for survival. Many of us resist w/out recognition or labels b/c our lives depend on it, we’ll always speak for ourselves but just imagine how much louder we’d all be if our protest song lifted *every voice*.
