One of the things I love about Christmas music is that every once in awhile you hear an interpretation of a classic that is new, & moving and beautiful. This “Silent Night” by ⁦@indiaarie⁩ and ⁦@4everBrandy⁩ w/ Joe Sample is one for me. LISTEN itunes.apple.com/us/album/silen…
And there are the new classics. This one hasn’t fully caught on yet, but @kelly_clarkson ‘s “Underneath the Tree” with Clarkson’s powerhouse vocalsand energy and Phil Spector-ish “wall of sound” is a fixture on my holiday playlist. LISTEN. itunes.apple.com/us/album/under…

2018 was a tough year for civ rts & justice. I’m proud of how civil rights lawyers & activists fought & often won. The year was also marked by extraordinary, wonderful & uplifting experiences that strengthened me for the battles ahead. I’m grateful for each of those experiences.
A surprise party last Jan. to commemorate my 5th anniversary as Director-Counsel at @NAACP_LDF attended by the two living former D-Cs, my mentors Elaine Jones and Ted Shaw. My girl @JNelsonLDF set me up masterfully. I was clueless right up to the moment. It was lovely.
Had a moment with the great one - Justice Bader Ginsburg - at @ConstitutionCtr where we first met 25 years ago. Also good to see my friend Marcia Greenberger.

It seems like some of you aren’t fully aware of R. Kelly’s disturbing history of sexual abuse and pedophilia. Let’s fix that.

• 1994: Marries 15 y/o Aaliyah at age 27.
• 1996: Sued for raping a 15 y/o at age 24. Settles.
• 2001: Multiple sex tapes leaked with victims as young as 14.
• 2001: Sued for raping 17 y/o. Made a deal.
• 2002: Sued for raping 16 y/o and forcing her to abort. Settles.
• 2002: Charged with 21 counts of making child pornography involving intercourse, oral sex, urination and other sexual acts.
• 2002-2004: Charged with 12 more counts of making child pornography in Florida. Charges dropped over legal technicality regarding discovery of evidence.

Once again, 14-year-old George Soros in hiding from Nazis in Budapest certainly did not take any property from fellow Jews. He "felt no guilt" watching his "godfather" taking an inventory of property that might be confiscated because he had nothing to feel guilty about.
You can work to imagine that Soros is admitting some kind of responsibility for something in the 60 Minutes interview, and saying he didn't feel guilty for that, whatever it is, but it's not really there, and there's no legitimate reason to pretend there is.
It is also not the case that Soros "collapsed entire countries' economies". What he did was to notice that one extremely wealthy country's currency, that of the UK in the feckless Tory government of John Major and chancellor Norman Lamont, was about to collapse itself.

Beautiful
(A microburst Twitter essay--to be finished before I'm done with my cough drop)

I just had an epiphany: #beautiful has become my new favorite word. That may seem strange given my circumstances. In June 2017 I was diagnosed with incurable stage IV #lungcancer.
I naively thought that maybe my lifetime of being a health and fitness junkie would insulate me from such a medical fate. Wrong. And So here I am, fifty-one years old and not sure how much time I have left on earth. I know I could, or maybe should, feel angry, cheated, jaded.
But I don't. I have this epiphany that my new favorite word is beautiful and I'm not sure why. There is nothing beautiful about what I've gone through since my diagnosis--lots of physical and emotional distress to be sure. But yet, I keep find

I did something similar to this 5 years ago, in anticipation of EC & @theroots' Wise Up Ghost LP, on tumblr.

(You can still find all those posts if you look, although a lot of the YouTube links etc are now dead ends. It was 40 Days Of EC then, so for 2018 I'm upping it to 45.)
Mostly I will be going chronologically from the early years right up to the present, but it feels right to start out with Costello's 2002 song, "45."
