Left-wingers who hijack the story of Christmas and turn it into a parable about immigration by describing Mary and Joseph as "migrants" are doing the same thing Xi Jinping does when he requires churches to include communist propaganda in their sermons.
Totalitarians require all stories to serve their political agenda. They can tolerate no source of authority that contradicts their edicts. They know propaganda must be pervasive in order to be effective. Their message must be inescapable.
The "War on Christmas" has always been about co-opting the last valuable piece of cultural real estate that is not suffused with left-wing messages. The crude caricature accuses the Left of wanting to "outlaw" Christmas, but the goal has always been subverting and diluting it.
The larger objective is to subvert religion and make it a force for collectivism rather than individuality. This is explicit in the Chinese campaign to "Sinicize" religion and make it subordinate and submissive to faith in the State.
And this "Mary and Joseph were migrants" twaddle intersects with the Left's goal to undermine citizenship because the American concept of citizenship reinforces individuality instead of collectivist ideals.
Individual rights untouchable by the State no matter how "noble" its goals, individual responsibilities... that all has to go, just as China wants to redefine "human rights" to align with collectivist ideals of the greatest good pursued by the wise and all-powerful State.
Collectivism has long prospered in the West by hitching its agenda to religious principles it nominally despises, i.e. "Christian charity" requires handing your wealth over to the State for redistribution.
The Founders knew what they were doing when they said inalienable individual rights are "God-given." Collectivists know what they're doing when they subvert religion to serve an agenda that sees nothing as inalienable and relentlessly attacks every pillar of individuality. /end
