The Generation Xers who have shitty politics despite being progressive in their youths don't cause harm JUST because "they couldn't keep pace with the pulse of the times"

Those guys cause harm because they learned their politics by rote and never actually figured out compassion
Despite what people say, you're not ACTUALLY destined to become a person who future generations will view as old-fashioned or regressive

People ASSUME that will happen, because for them, their politics is like a school curriculum that was/will be unjustly declared obsolete
The idea of being "an immaculate elder" is a fantasy because even though we can learn and grow, our works and deeds are frozen in time, and not all of them will age well

But contrary to popular belief it's still totally possible to be old AND right if you have good core values
My sibling @0bviouSquirre1 and I have this concept called "Cargo Culting" in which a well-intentioned person tries to fit in or receive acclaim among his friends/community by regurgitating progressive ideas as talking points, making it clear they don't totally understand them
The realization that one of our friends was doing so was one of things that made it less surprising when that guy went ahead and married a woman I would characterize as unappealingly conservative and proceeded to become one of the most unremarkable, most basic people we knew
