Are U.S. Newspapers Biased Against Palestinians? Analysis of A Hundred Thousand Headlines Says Yes: based on a sentiment analysis of headlines spanning 50 years in 5 newspapers dating back to '67: bit.ly/2C7TJeK
@nytimes @washingtonpost @WJS @chicagotribune @LATimes
Headlines were divided into two groups: one of #Palestinian-centric headlines, and another of #Israeli-centric headlines:
Since 1967, use of the word “occupation” has declined by 85% in the Israeli group of headlines, and by 65% in the Palestinian one;
Since 1967, mentions of Palestinian refugees have declined by an overall 93%.
#Israeli sources are nearly 250% more likely to be quoted as #Palestinians.
Words connoting violence such as “terror” appear three times as much as the word “occupation” in the #Palestinian-centric headlines
Coverage of the #Israeli-#Palestinian conflict has reduced dramatically in the second half of the fifty-year period.
A recent story on our blog also notes a similar trend of declining mentions of illegal #Israeli settlements in recent years in the “Israel: Background and U.S. Relations in Brief,” developed by the Congressional Research Service bit.ly/2BAaH59
