Think back to an activity you were involved in before 1996. It could be a campus rehearsal, fam reunion, boot camp, a book reading, pickup basketball, where you were when you heard Lady Di died. No one had a smartphone. That's as culturally impactful as saying "No one had a car"
In 1979, not one Congressional or Senate staffer or legislative aide could look anything up on a search engine or laptop computer. Not even the most advanced individual.
When "Brian's Song", "Rich Man, Poor Man" & "Roots" originally aired, one could not tape them and watch at one's convenience.

So as @AndrewWilson has laid down the floor for healthy debate, I wish to do a thread on why an independent Scotland should have its own currency. I do not believe that having monetary policy controlled by the BoE that doesn't suit our needs is the correct approach.
First, I will take head on the key tests that are laid out in the @sgcommission's report. Many of the points I will raise have already been touched upon by the likes of @RichardJMurphy, @billy_blog and @Common_Weal. I highly recommend you read up on their views. The six key tests laid out by the Growth Commission are 1) Fiscal sustainability 2) Central Bank credibility and stability of debt issuance 3) Financial requirements of Scottish residents and businesses 4) Sufficiency of foreign exchange and financial reserves 5) Fit to trade and investment patterns 6) Correlation of economic and trade cycle

One fact that #MMT teaches us is that monetary sovereign nations cannot go bankrupt in regards to their own currency. How can they when they are the monopoly supplier and own most of their debt? You can see my thread on Japan.

Dealing with depression requires action, but taking action when you’re depressed can be hard. Sometimes, just thinking about the things you should do to feel better, like exercising or spending time with friends, can seem exhausting or impossible to put into action.
The things that help the most are the things that are the most difficult to do. There is a big difference, however, between something that's difficult and something that's impossible.
You may not have much energy, but by drawing on all your reserves, you should have enough to take a walk around the block or pick up the phone to call a loved one.
