"If confirmed, I will not permit partisan politics, personal interests, or any other improper consideration to interfere with" the special counsel's investigation, Attorney General nominee William Barr will tell the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, per prepared remarks.
“I believe it is in the best interest of everyone – the President, Congress, and, most importantly, the American people – that this matter be resolved by allowing the Special Counsel to complete his work," Barr is to say. "[O]n my watch, Bob will be allowed to complete his work."
Barr also is to say: "I also believe it is very important that the public and Congress be informed of the results of the Special Counsel’s work," pledging to provide "as much transparency as I can consistent with the law."
Here's my report on what Bill Barr, Trump's AG nominee, plans to tell the Senate about how he'll handle the Mueller investigation should he be confirmed as attorney general. —> buzzfeed.com/chrisgeidner/b…
On Jan. 10, @SenWhitehouse provided AG nominee Bill Barr with a series of questions that he is looking for answers to, about Barr's pre-nomination WH contacts and DOJ and Mueller's independence, as well as ethics questions. whitehouse.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/…
And, we have a witness list for the Barr confirmation hearing. Michael Mukasey, who is testifying, also testified in favor of Sessions.
I thought I had read this before, and I had. Although the NBC story says the comments were "unearthed," they've been part of an oral history that Barr gave that lots of us read the day Trump announced he was going to nominate him.
Also not sure why there's not a link to the oral history. Here it is: millercenter.org/the-presidency… / Here's the relevant section, which is far more nuanced, IMHO. [Would be great for a senator to ask what was redacted here, though.]
